Welcome To Sakaguchi Laboratory

Our brain nicely deals with vast amount of sensory information which we receive anytime, detemines appropriate actions in a limited time, and controls a complex body system consisting of many bones and muscles. Brain must have some information processing principles for realizing these realtime-complex sensorimotor functions. Our research goal is to reveal brain mechanism for such a sensori-motor processsing.
Main research topics are

  1. Active perception and perceptual organization, choosing relevant information and integrating into a organized object,
  2. Motor command generation, desigining motor commands for complex motor system in a realtime manner,
  3. Learning and adaptation, following the envrionment changes and acquiring/developing new skills, and,
  4. Representation and transformation building an internal representation for sensory and motor functions.

Understanding these mechanisms can contribute not only to science fields such as neuroscience, but also to engineering and social fields, including design principles for new user interfaces, development of assisting human sensory and motor functions, and proposal of education and learning to extract personal abilities
